Kevan Peabody
Music Director · Performer · Gospel Historian
Kevan Peabody is a dynamic music director, performer, and historian whose devotion to gospel music has shaped congregations and audiences across the globe. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Black Studies from San Francisco State University and a Certificate in Religion & Sexuality from the Pacific School of Religion, with additional musical training at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee — where he sang with Fisk University’s Modern Black Mass Choir, whose 1973 debut album, First Time Around, stands among his earliest recordings — and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He currently serves as Director of Music for Mingleton Temple Church of God in Christ in Oakland, California, and as a music consultant for the Third Baptist Church of San Francisco.
A respected voice in the gospel music community, Kevan holds membership in the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) and the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses (NGCC), and serves as a voting member of the Recording Academy (the Grammys). His travels across the Americas and Europe as both performer and historian have deepened his mastery of gospel music’s storied legacy — expertise he has shared in interviews with acclaimed journalist Bob Marovich, including “Peace Be Still: How James Cleveland and the Angelic Choir Created a Gospel Classic” and “The History of Malaco Records.”
Kevan has also served as Music Director for Saint Leo the Great School in Oakland and continues to mentor emerging artists through Twinkem Productions. A gifted choral director, songwriter, and musician, he releases his highly anticipated project, “Standing on the Promises,” on November 6, 2026.
